Bespoke Jewellery Making Workshop
Do you want to make your own unique piece of silver jewellery?
Have you ever wondered how much work goes into making jewellery by hand? Ever wanted to have a try yourself? If you’ve answered “yes” to both of these questions, then this 4-hour, hands-on bespoke jewellery making session will be perfect for you! Run out of Ange’s little garden workshop in Hanwell, West London (affectionately known as “The She Cave”), this tailor-made class for beginners offers a great introduction to this wonderful craft.
This jewellery making class arose from a desire to promote ethical and sustainable jewellery, whilst sharing a love of all things handmade. What better way to make something sustainably than to create it yourself, and at the same time gain an appreciation of the time it takes to make jewellery by hand.
Why choose a private jewellery making workshops with Ange?
During this hands-on jewellery workshops, you will receive step-by-step tutoring, on how to make your own sterling silver jewellery item. You can choose from a ring, bracelet, earrings or a pendant. We will discuss and plan your design at the start of the session (there are lots of examples from previous workshop attendees to inspire you).
It’s a very relaxed and friendly session, in which you will be taught how to use all the equipment in a safe environment. Ange is a patient, knowledgeable tutor who likes questions and wants everyone to feel that they can create an original piece of jewellery that they’ll be able to wear home!
The ‘She Cave’ is a small but well-equipped workspace that will comfortably accommodates one or two students at a time. In a Guardian feature article, I spoke about the importance of having a space that was not only functional but also somewhere that’s pleasant to work. So hopefully you will enjoy visiting the ‘She Cave’ to make your jewellery.
The studio does not have toilet facilities, but students are very welcome to use Ange’s home toilet.
You will learn:
How to size your chosen item, be it a ring or bangle.
How to use a jeweller’s saw effectively and safely.
How to create different textures on metal.
How to solder safely.
How to polish/finish.
Is this silver jewellery making workshop suitable for beginners?
No previous experience in metal working is needed, just an enthusiasm to learn and try something new! Please don’t worry if you’re “not creative”, Everyone has a creative side and it just needs the right prompts to switch it on.
